Armenia will be represented this year by the sisters Inga and Anush who will be performing their song 'Jan Jan'' in the 1st semi-final in Moscow. The draw has put Armenia in position #6.

The sisters come from the Armenian capital of Yerevan and are quite popular across the country with their traditional and folk music. Inga and Anush have been singing and composing their own songs from a very young age and began performing together on a professional level in 2000, before going on to to act together in the State Song Theatre of Armenia. Three years later, the sisters began to perform outside Armenia in major cities across Europe such as London, Paris and even some cities in the USA.

Inga had graduated from the S. Aslamazyan Music School having studied the violin. From 2002 to 2005, Inga also studied in the jazz-vocal department of the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan.

Anush graduated from the piano department of the S. Aslamazyan Music School also. In 1994, Anush won the 1st prize in the Zvonkie Golosa contest in Omsk as well as winning the Audience Choice Award. She has also performed as a soloist for the State Philharmonic Orchestra and the choir of Armenia.

The Armenian National Final was held at the Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, which was hosted by Gohar Gasparyan and Avet Barseghyan. A combination of jury and televoting was used to determine the winner which were the sisters Inga and Anush, who beat off the local favourite Mher and his song 'My Heart, My Soul.'

This Armenian entry did not have many fans at first, but is now seen as a very likely qualifier for the final.

No former Eurovision stars made a return to the Armenian final.

NATIONAL FINAL PERFORMANCE

The Armenian entry for 2009 'Jan Jan' performed by the sisters Inga and Anush.

DIARMUID'S THOUGHTS

This I feel is Armenia's weakest entry to date in the contest, but it is a song that does grow on you. The sisters Inga and Anush are quite popular in the country and in certain areas of Eastern Europe. The ladies have announced that they are working with Russian choreographers and stylists, promising a stage show to remember. With Sirusho getting Armenia into 4th place last year, leaves the sisters with an uphill struggle if they are to achieve a position like that this year, which I do not feel is going to happen. With a good performance, this song will stand out, which may help the Armenian entry.

PREDICTION

I think Armenia will qualify, but even if they do make the final, the country will definitely not be making a Top 10 appearance compared to all the other Armenian entries performed by Andre, Hayko and Sirusho.

OVERALL RATING 5.5/10
