Christina Metaxa will represent the island of Cyprus in the 2nd semi-final with the song 'Firefly,' which was written by her older brother and Greek X Factor Runner up Nikolas Metaxa. The young singer will be hoping to take Cyprus into the Eurovision final for the first time in four years and will be performing under position #7.
17 year old Christina is not only very young and beautiful, but has many talents. These include taking part in many singing competitions and school music productions. As well as singing and performing, Christina is a very talented artist and finds that painting helps her to relax. In addition to this, Christina is also a dancer and a member of the Diastasis Young Dancers Group, who are quite popular across Cyprus. The young Cypriot also writes poetry and children's stories, near ready to publish her very first book.
The Cypriot National Final saw the return of a few big names such as Eurovision veterans Alex Panayi (ESC 1995, 2000) and Marlain Angelidou (ESC 1999). As the songs had not been released before the national final, it was felt that surely Alex Panayi would be the favourite to get the Cypriot ticket to Moscow due to his amazing voice and experience on stage. However, it was Christina Metaxa who won by a huge landslide and earning herself a place in Eurovision.
According to the bookmakers and online fan polls, Cyprus will not be taking part in the Eurovision Final this year.
Former Eurovision stars who returned to the National Final included Alex Panayi (ESC 1995, 2000, Cyprus) and Marlain Angelidou (ESC 1999, Cyprus).

DIARMUID'S THOUGHTS
I really like this Cypriot entry and from the moment I heard it, I was immediately a fan of it. It is a song which suits Christina's voice and I feel that this could well be a dark horse in Moscow. In fairness, Christina might not have the same vocal abilities as Lisa Andreas or Annet Artani who sang similar ballads for Cyprus. Being given a relatively decent draw and with a memorable stage performance, many bookmakers will be in for a shock.
PREDICTION
This song is going to the final. If not selected through the televoting, it will surely be a favourite amongst the jury members and we have to remember that Cyprus are same semi-final as Greece.
